Herping in Namibia
In 2013 I did a trip to Namibia with Paul Moler, Randy Babb and James Harvey. We turned up loads of reptiles and amphibians to photograph and travelled about 8,000 km.
One lizard that I was very keen on photographing was the Desert Plated Lizard (Gerrhosaurus skoogi). It inhabits the windblown dunes of coastal northern Namibia where it runs up and down the dunes chasing insects. When threatened it dives into the loose sand and disappears!
It was difficult to get closer than about 60 meters from individuals but after several hours we managed to get the photographs that we wanted.
